When I started working on the My Wings Ladies Driving School website, the goal was not simply to create a visually attractive React.js application. The website needed to represent a real business, provide useful information to potential customers, work well across devices, support customer enquiries, and be discoverable through search engines.

This project gave me an opportunity to work through the complete frontend development process — from understanding business requirements and building the UI to integrating Firebase, implementing SEO, using Git/GitHub, and deploying the website.

The Business

My Wings Ladies Driving School is a real driving school business serving customers looking for driving lessons and related services.

The website was created to give the business a professional online presence and make it easier for potential customers to discover the business, understand its services, and make enquiries.

Because this is a real business website, the project had requirements beyond simply writing code.

The website needed to be:

Responsive across mobile, tablet, and desktop

Visually appealing and easy to navigate

Clear about services and courses

Useful for potential customers

Search-engine friendly

Easy to maintain and improve

Deployed and accessible as a live website

From Requirement to a Real Website

I approached the project as a real-world frontend development project rather than a simple practice application.

The general workflow was:

Requirement → Planning → UI Development → React Components → Firebase Integration → Responsive Testing → SEO → Deployment → Improvements

This helped me understand how frontend development works when the final product is actually going to be used by customers.

Technology Stack

The main technologies and tools used in the project include:

React.js

JavaScript

HTML5

CSS3

Firebase

Git

GitHub

Framer Motion

Vercel

Netlify

SEO tools and techniques

React.js was used as the main frontend framework, while Firebase provided backend/data capabilities required by the project.

Git and GitHub were used for source-code management and version control.

Framer Motion was used to improve the visual experience with smooth UI animations and interactions.

Building the UI with React.js

One of the main goals of the project was to create a modern and visually appealing interface while keeping the experience simple for users.

I structured the website using reusable React components and created different sections for the business information, services, courses, customer-focused content, and other important information.

Instead of treating every section as an isolated page, I focused on creating a consistent design system and reusable frontend structure.

This made the project easier to maintain and also made future improvements easier to implement.

Responsive Design

A business website needs to work well on the devices that customers actually use.

A large portion of users can access a website through smartphones, so responsive design was an important part of this project.

I worked on:

Mobile-friendly layouts

Responsive sections

Flexible content

Navigation behaviour

Different screen sizes

Readability and spacing

Touch-friendly interactions

The goal was to make the website feel consistent whether it was opened on a desktop, tablet, or mobile device.

Creating a Better Visual Experience

A visually attractive website can make a strong first impression, especially for a local business.

I used Framer Motion to add animations and transitions to selected parts of the interface.

The objective was not to add animations everywhere, but to use motion where it could improve the overall experience without making the website unnecessarily complicated.

This helped the website feel more modern and engaging while keeping the primary focus on the business information and user experience.

Firebase Integration

Firebase was used as the backend/data layer for parts of the project.

This allowed the application to work with dynamic data without requiring a completely separate custom backend from the beginning.

The project can also evolve further as business requirements grow.

One of my future goals is to expand the backend capabilities and introduce additional functionality as the requirements of the business increase.

SEO and Search Visibility

Building a website is only one part of the process.

For a real business, potential customers also need to be able to discover the website through search engines.

Because of this, SEO was an important part of the project.

I worked on areas such as:

Page metadata

Search-engine related configuration

Website structure

SEO-friendly content

Sitemap and robots configuration

Search Console related setup

The website has received organic visibility and clicks through search, which made SEO more than just a theoretical concept for me.

It showed me how frontend development, content, SEO, and business objectives can work together.

Git and GitHub

Git and GitHub were an important part of the development workflow.

I used Git for version control and GitHub to maintain the project's source code.

This helped me understand the importance of:

Tracking changes

Maintaining project history

Managing source code

Working with repositories

Preparing projects for deployment

Keeping a project maintainable over time

The source code for this project is available on GitHub.

Deployment

The website was deployed and made available for real users.

I worked with modern deployment platforms including Vercel and Netlify during the development and deployment workflow.

This helped me understand the process beyond local development:

Code → GitHub → Build → Deployment → Live Website

Seeing a project move from a local development environment to an actual live business website was one of the most valuable parts of this project.

Using AI as a Development Assistant

AI-assisted development was also part of my workflow.

I used tools such as:

ChatGPT

Claude

GitHub Copilot

Gemini

I used these tools for activities such as brainstorming, exploring implementation approaches, debugging, understanding errors, improving code, and solving development problems.

However, I treated AI as a development assistant rather than blindly copying generated code.

I reviewed, tested, modified, and adapted the output based on the actual requirements of the project.

This experience also taught me an important lesson:

Knowing how to use AI effectively is useful, but understanding the code you ship is still essential.

Real Business Value

The biggest difference between this project and a typical practice project is that this website is actually being used by a real business.

The website provides the business with:

A professional digital presence

Better presentation of services

Easy access to business information

A customer-friendly experience

Search visibility

A platform that can be improved as the business grows

The website has also contributed to customer discovery and enquiries, giving the project practical business value beyond being a portfolio project.

For me, this made the project much more meaningful than simply completing another tutorial or demo application.

Challenges and Lessons Learned

Working on a real business website introduced challenges that I would not have experienced in a simple tutorial project.

Some of the major lessons I learned were:

1. Requirements matter

A real client/business requirement is different from a predefined tutorial.

The UI and functionality need to solve an actual problem.

2. Responsive design is essential

A website can look great on a desktop and still provide a poor experience on mobile.

Testing across different screen sizes is therefore an important part of frontend development.

3. Deployment is part of development

Writing code locally is only one part of the job.

Understanding Git, builds, hosting, domains, deployment, and production issues is equally important.

4. SEO matters for business websites

A technically good website still needs to be discoverable.

Working on SEO helped me understand how frontend development can directly support business visibility.

5. Real projects require continuous improvement

A live website is never truly "finished."

There are always opportunities to improve UI, performance, content, SEO, accessibility, and functionality.

Future Improvements

The current project is designed to evolve as the business requirements grow.

Some of the areas I plan to explore in the future include:

Expanding backend functionality

Adding more dynamic features

Improving performance

Further improving SEO

Adding additional business workflows

Improving analytics and user insights

Expanding the application's overall architecture

The goal is to continue treating the project as a real product rather than a completed demo.

What This Project Taught Me

This project helped me move beyond learning individual technologies and understand how they work together in a real development workflow.

I gained practical experience with:

React.js

JavaScript

Responsive web development

Component-based UI development

Firebase

Git and GitHub

SEO

Deployment

Framer Motion

Debugging

AI-assisted development

Working with real business requirements

Most importantly, I learned that frontend development is not just about writing code.

It is about understanding a requirement, creating a useful experience, solving problems, testing the result, deploying it, and continuously improving it.

Final Thoughts

The My Wings Ladies Driving School website is one of the projects that helped me understand what it means to build software for real users.

From the initial idea to the live website, I worked across different parts of the development process and experienced how frontend technology can solve an actual business problem.

This project also strengthened my interest in frontend development and motivated me to continue improving my skills in React.js, JavaScript, modern frontend practices, APIs, performance, and scalable web development.
